Peni Candra Rini will act as Gamelan Raga Kusuma's Artistic Director from January 9 - May 31, 2023.

A renowned Javanese singer and composer, Candra Rini (PhD) will be in residence at the University of Richmond and Virginia Commonwealth University as a Fulbright Visiting Artist-Scholar during the Spring 2023 semester. Faculty at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts, Candra Rini is a recipient of grants from the Asian Cultural Council, a two-time grantee of the US State Department’s One Beat Program and in 2022 was named an Aga Khan Foundation laureate of the arts.

One of Bali's leading performing troupes, Gamelan Cudamani, will be offering workshops and a performance at the University of Richmond on September 21 and 22. Gusti Sudarta presents an evening of traditional shadow theater, accompanied by Raga Kusuma, and including a short opening set by Rumput. Sudarta will provide a pre-concert workshop on Balinese kecak for Yale students. Free and open to the public.

Sunday, March 22, 2020 - 3:00pm

A free, family-friendly matinee featuring shadow master Gusti Sudarta, accompanied by Raga Kusuma. Sudarta will also provide several workshops in Balinese music, theater, and dance for Wake Forest and local public school students.
