Richmond’s own Gamelan Raga Kusuma will play a concert of traditional and contemporary music for Javanese and Balinese gamelan (Indonesian gong orchestra). Works by Astita, Lucier, Lotring, Reich, Windha and others. Guest appearance by Rumput. Audience will be invited to try the instruments after the show. $8 advance, $10 at doors. Balinese shadow master Gusti Sudarta (Indonesian Institute of the Arts) presents a free, family friendly traditional shadow play, accompanied by live traditional gamelan music.
GRK is lead by Balinese master artist I Gusti Putu Sudarta and Javanese master artist Peni Candrarini in a concert of traditional Indonesian gamelan music. Sudarta will perform an innovative shadow theater to accompany Justin Alexander’s performance of Glenn Kotche’s Monkey Chant for drumset. Free and Open to the Public.
